Some history………. Batley TV was set up last year by local group Amada Arts to provide a video what’s on to promote community groups. Since then, Batley TV has produced a variety of short films from 20 minute programmes to short films about groups and individuals and more recently a weekly what’s on bulletin. All of what we’ve done so far can be viewed on the video page of this website so go and have a look!
DIY is the spirit of Batley TV. There are no ‘experts’. We had some basic training last year thanks to funding from Grassroots Grants and Awards For All, but the main thing is to just ‘have a go’. The idea is to share skills and learn from each other (and from our mistakes!). It’s still early days but what we’ve done so far has been well received and there’s lots of potential to build on this as we learn more.
Most of all –it’s fun! So why not join in? If you love Batley, like to tell stories, are happy to learn by doing and share our philosophy of just having a go, then get involved.
We are always in need of more volunteers– especially ones who know more than we do – so if you’re even just a little bit curious about it all, come and see us.
Looking ahead……….we plan to carry on making programmes and developing our website so Batley TV is where you go if you want to know what’s happening in Batley. For the moment our wings have been a bit clipped by the equipment at our disposal. When we started out last year, we had the loan of a professional camera and computer which we used to make the first few programmes. Now we’re back to basics with a camcorder and PC, which inevitably has put limits on what we can do. We’re not giving in though and are about to start fund-raising to buy better kit.
24 hours in a bath of baked beans anyone??
What is Batley TV? In a nutshell:
It’s programmes about Batley, made by people from Batley, and broadcast on the internet.
It promotes community groups and venues, sports teams and local events.
It gives people a chance to talk about local issues.
It’s produced by volunteers and is open to anyone to get involved.
